Continuous fiberglass reinforcement is available after engineering review and gives functional strength for most locating and inspection tooling. Published material data (Markforged datasheet, ASTM D3039) reports tensile performance up to 590 MPa in the reinforced test direction; part performance depends on fiber routing, orientation, geometry, and load case. It is not as strong as steel, and we never say it is.

The questions we get first.

Will plastic really replace my steel tool?
For the right applications, yes; for others, no, and we will tell you which. We reinforce with continuous fiber, embed metal inserts at wear and precision points, and can print a sample of your actual part so you test it, not take our word.
What does switching actually save?
It depends on the tool, the volume, and your current source, so we do not publish a blanket percentage. Instead we build a per-part comparison against your full landed metal cost: unit price plus freight, brokerage, minimum-order quantities, revision-cycle delay, and any applicable import duty. The saving is smallest on a single cheap part and largest on complex, low-volume tooling.
I am not on the Front Range.
We ship a prepaid kit, rebuild your part in composite, and return the original with its replacement. From then on it reorders print-only from your digital locker.
Does a more complex part cost more?
No. With 3D printing, price tracks the material and print time a part uses, not how intricate it is. A complex, consolidated, or organic shape prints for about the same as a simple block of the same size, while in machining every added feature means more setups, tool changes, and mill time. The more complicated the tool, the harder composite wins.
Isn’t a printed tool weaker than metal?
For the right jobs it is strong enough, and we tell you where it is not. We reinforce with continuous fiber along the load path (published tensile up to 590 MPa in the reinforced direction), embed metal inserts and bushings at wear and precision points, and print a sample of your actual part so you test it. Where heat, cutting loads, or sub-0.2 mm precision rule, we tell you to stay metal.
How does the design and build process work?
Send a drawing or the physical part, or we scan it on-site on the Front Range. We review it for printability, print a sample in your actual material so you can test fit and function, then catalog it by part number. After that, reorders are print-only from your file: no re-modeling, no re-scanning.
Do the drill guides really hold up?
Yes. The guide body is composite, but every drill hole carries a pressed metal bushing, so you get hardened-steel drilling precision and tens-of-thousands-of-cycle life, not a soft printed bore. The bushings are included in the price.
Do you engrave part or company IDs?
Yes, free. Your company name or a tool ID is engraved into every part we make, guides and all other components, at no charge, so your tooling stays traceable on the floor.
